AOL Issues
Fix AOL Connection Problems
Fix AOL Connection Problems
Experiencing connection problems is a common issue for internet users and troubleshooting your connection can be a frustrating task if you don’t know what you are doing or what is causing the connection issue. Here are some of the most common problems that can lead to connection interruptions, and how you can easily solve them if you use the popular internet service provider AOL.
AOL Does Not Detect a Modem
One of the most common connection errors that occurs with AOL is the error message that reads “AOL is unable to find appropriate DSL modem or adapter to use for this connection”. There are a few reasons why this may be the case. To fix this error follow these steps. After each step recheck your connection, as any of these may work!
1. Check to see if any cords or plugs may have come lose. In particular the cable cord connecting the cable line to the modem or the connection from the modem to your PC.
2. Use the AOL Connectivity Repair function. You can locate this by clicking Start, and typing AOL Connectivity Service in the search field. Follow the step-by-step instructions to run the check.
3. Check your PC for viruses and spyware using your Anti-Virus software to scan your PC.
DSL Cable is not Plugged into DSL Modem
As the first connection problem describes, one of the most common reasons why you may be having connection problems with AOL is that your DSL cable is loose or has come unplugged from the modem. Here are the connections you should be looking for.
1. Make sure that the cable running from the modem to the back of your computer is fully plugged in.
2. Ensure that the cable line in connected either directly to the wall, or the filter depending on your particular setup.
3. It is also a good idea to check all other connections as well to ensure that it is not your mouse, monitor or keyboard that is not responding.
Your AOL Connectivity is Interrupted
If you are frequently experiencing internet connection interruption this can be frustrating, and unfortunately there are a number of reasons that this may be occurring. Here are some of the most common problems and how to work through fixing them.
1. If you are using a wireless router, the problem may be with the connection at this level. Check to see if the connection to the router is secure. If all the cables appear to be connected, then try resetting the router according to the instructions that came with the device.
2. If your PC is directly connected to the modem, and your internet connection is not running through a router there may be a number of software problems that can cause interruption. This includes spyware, or perhaps that you have too many programs running at the same time. Running your anti-virus software, or checking to see which programs you have running can help solve this issue.
3. If neither of these problems appears to be this issue, you may want to try reinstalling the AOL software. This may solve any software problems that are causing interruptions to the connection.
While these are only the most common problems that you may experience with your AOL internet connection, and not all of them, most of the problems can usually be solved using one, or a combination of these methods.
